Called “the funniest farce ever written,” Noises Off presents a manic menagerie of itinerant actors rehearsing a flop called Nothing’s On.  This play-within-a-play captures a touring theatre   troupe’s production of Nothing On in three stages: dress rehearsal, the opening performance, and a performance towards the end of a debilitating run.  This hilarious comedy is a window into the inner workings of theatre behind the scenes, progressing from flubbed lines and missed cues in the dress rehearsal to mounting friction between cast members in the final performance.  Brimming with slapstick comedy, Noises Off is a delightful backstage farce, complete with slamming doors, falling trousers, and – of course – flying sardines!

JIM WOOD (Director) currently lives in Huntsville, AL and is thrilled to be returning temporarily to Meridian for this production of “Noises Off”.  Jim earned a BFA in Theatre Arts from Northern Kentucky University in 1987 and, although occasionally interrupted by flying F-14s for the Navy and running a business, he’s been directing and acting ever since.  In 1990 and 91, while in flight school at NAS Meridian, Jim had the opportunity to assistant direct Steel Magnolias and perform in Cabaret and Show Boat at MLT.  As an actor, some of his favorite roles include Jean Valjean (Les Miserables), Robert Kincaid (The Bridges of Madison County), Archibald Craven (The Secret Garden), The Baker (Into The Woods), Robert (Company), and Pirelli (Sweeney Todd).  As a director, some of Jim’s favorites include Godspell, Our Town, The Foreigner, and Noises Off.  Over the years some of Jim’s most fond theatrical experiences include performing Off-Broadway with Anna Deavere Smith and James Earl Jones, Sr., studying at the Eugene O’Neill National Theatre Institute in Waterford, CT, and of course working with Jimmy Pigford here at MLT.
