Ellie massey
2017 - present

Ellie Massey earned two Bachelor degrees, one in Theatre and one in Broadcasting, while at Mississippi University for Women. Ellie directed The Mouse Trap, and The Timid Dragon. She performed in Snow White, Aesop’s Fables, Stage Door, No Exit, Samuel Beckett’s, Krapp’s Last Tape as a one woman show, and in 6 Rms Riv Vu with John Maxwell. She earned her stripes behind the curtain as stage manager for Royal Gambit, a member of the set construction crew for Lady House Blues, a costumer for Trojan Women, and fly operator for Brigadoon. As a senior at MUW, Ellie was the very first recipient of the Guy H. Keaton Scholarship for Children’s Theater and she was the first director at MUW to use only child actors in a children’s theater production.
Ellie earned a graduate assistantship in the University of Mississippi Director’s Program where she directed An Actor’s Nightmare, and Stage Directions. She was stage manager for My Fair Lady, The King and I and Baby! and she served on the set construction and set decoration crews for The Dresser.
Since coming to Meridian in 1985, she has worked on and off the stage for Meridian Little Theatre. She served on the Board of Directors, including two years as Vice-President. For MLT’s youth division, CenterStage, Ellie served as co-director for The Magical Land of Oz, Princess Whatsername, and the CenterStage Summer Workshops since 2014. In addition to this, she wrote the scripts for each of those workshops. Plus, she worked back stage for The Emperor’s New Clothes. She is currently co-directing the 2017 Center/Stage production of Alice @ Wonderland. She will also direct the final show of the 84ths Season- 9 to 5.
Ellie considered it a true honor to serve as Assistant Director under the late Jimmie Pigford for The Lion In Winter and Steel Magnolias, his last production. Ellie was stage manager for Hello, Dolly!, a performer in The Odd Couple (Female Version) and Sorry, Wrong Chimney. Last spring, Ellie directed a star-studded cast for MLT’s 2016 dinner theater production, The Butler Did It Singing, and most recently was the light board operator for this year’s dinner theater, Honky Tonk Angels.
Ellie taught Theatre Appreciation at Meridian Community College and served as Light Board Operator for their 2016 fall musical, Aida.
